    In Bangladesh, people call this wonderful place as “daughter of the sea”. Kuakata is the most visited and nice travel spot in the south of the country. It has a 35 km long sandy beach. Now, let’s know a little history of Kuakata. Kuakata is in Patuakhali district and 320 km away from the capital city Dhaka while 70 km away from the Patuakhali district town.

    In the name Kuakata, “Kua” means wells and “kata” means dug or digging. In complete sense, Kuakata means “well dug” or digging a well.

    Long time ago, people from ethnic Rakhine, who were expelled from Myanmar during Moughals reign and later came here, would dig many wells on the sea shore in a bid to get pure drinking waters. From then people living there, started digging wells and would collect water for all purposes including drinking and washing. And expert believed that Kuakata was named after this tradition.

    Kuakat is a rare kind of place in Bangladesh with its unique beauty. You will not find any second place like Kuakata in Bangladesh. It has an wonderful natural beauty with sandy beach, deep blue sky, green fores along the shore of the sea-all things really made this place a piece of heaven! The most interesting thing in this place is that you will be able to see a full view of both the sun’s rising and setting. The no other place in the country where you can enjoy the full view of sun’s rising and setting. That’s why it’s a very special place local tourist. Moreover, in winter season, you will see lots of migrant birds drifting in the water of sea or ponds nearby. The colorful boats, sails, fishing boats, surfing waves just under a vast clear blue sky will touch the heart of every tourist and you will certainly fall in love of this place.

    Around the Kuakata, you will find many old Buddhist Temple and these temple will also charm you and remind you the past history and tradition of this part. Thousands of Buddhist devotees come every year to attend the two most significant Buddhist festivals-“Rush Purnima” and “Maghi Purnima”. The devotees gather at the beach and offer their prayers.

    How to go there?
    Kuakata is 320km away from Dhaka. You can visit this place by road. It would take about 7 to 9 hours to reach at Kuakata. You should remember one thing that it also 70 km away from the district town. There is another way. First you can go to Barishal, another district near Patuakhali, by launch. After that you can make trip to Patuakhali ‘s Kuakata.


    Where to stay?
    There are some nice hotel and motel for tourist. You can stay there with good and comfortable condition. There is very common and nice motel which is named as Parjatan Holiday Homes and it is actually a tourist resort with all basic and luxury facilities for the tourists. You will find a pond that has crystal clean water just beside the motel.
